Timeless Wedding Photography in France

Jennifer Fox

There’s something so elegant about black and white wedding photography. It adds an extra layer of importance to an already important day.

A few weeks ago, in preparation of my upcoming wedding in France, I started looking back at my grandparents’ black and white wedding photos. There’s a sense of timeless elegance that simply cannot be replicated by color photography. It made me wonder what my own grandchildren will someday think when they look at my wedding photos in preparation for their celebration. Take a look at some of this past year's wedding couples in all of their black, white and timeless glory!

Happy Valentine's Day | Winter Wedding in Paris

Jennifer Fox

Just in time for Valentine's Day, I am over the moon excited to share Christina & David's romantic, festive and red winter wedding in Paris!

When Christina and David came to me with their idea to have a wedding where their guests would be treated to a once in a lifetime gourmet dinner in Paris, I jumped at the chance to make their wedding dreams come true! The Seattle based couple chose the day before New Years Eve to celebrate in art deco style by privatizing a Michelin starred restaurant in Paris for their intimate fireside ceremony, champagne cocktail and 6-course dinner reception.

We chose modern décor elements that complimented the look and feel of the magnificent restaurant space and its cozy {there were no less than 3 fireplaces!}, chic and playful design. The couple had their ceremony on the covered garden terrace in front of a fireplace dripping with foliage and flowers.

The bride walked down the aisle in a fabulous dress that she herself designed {cape and all!} to "Somewhere Only We Know" by Keane, which was played by a live violinist and classical guitarist. We chose a burgundy, dusty blue and ivory color palette for the romantic floral design, custom designed menus and place cards and plenty of candle light! We added a touch of DIY by individually wrapping the guest favors {macarons from Ladurée} in ivory paper, dusty blue velvet ribbons and signature wax seal.

The couple and their guests sipped champagne and enjoyed a 6-course gourmet meal, which included wine pairings with every course. In keeping with the burgundy theme, only wine from the Burgundy region was served. As a surprise to the couple, the evening ended with a beautiful all white wedding cake, which was illuminated with sparklers!

Planning a Wedding in France | Tips from a Paris Wedding Planner

Jennifer Fox

Happy New Year everyone and shout out to all you newly engaged couples! As there are many couples who are now starting to plan their destination wedding in France, I wanted to take a moment to share some destination wedding planning and design tips.

#1. WEDDING DESSERT - Remember, if you are making the journey to France to celebrate your wedding, saving the top tier of your wedding cake may not be an option. A good way to make sure your cake or dessert does not go to waste, is to purchase individual sized cake boxes in advance. Organize with your caterer to box up any left over goodies to give to your guests on their way out. Not only will you not waste any cake, but your guests will have a sweet late night treat to enjoy back at their hotel!

#2. WEDDING PARTY GIFTS - Obviously this goes with out saying but they have been by your side throughout your engagement and now on your big day! Of course you'll want to make them feel special. A pair of earrings or cufflinks to wear on your wedding day, getting ready robes or ...  always adds a nice touch. Or if gifts are not in your budget, a beautiful hand written card goes a long way!

#3. GUEST TRANSPORTATION - For some weddings where there may be a break between the ceremony and reception, especially for weddings in Paris. It is essential that you keep your guests happy. After all, they did travel a long way to be with you on your big day! A fun idea to keep them occupied while you go off for photographs around the city, is to hire a tour bus to take your guests around. You can even organize snack packs in advance filled with mini bottles of wine or champagne, water, cheese and macarons to give to each guest to enjoy on while being whisked around the city!

#4. WELCOME GIFTS - Nothing says bienvenue like a welcome box or bag! No matter how big or small, it helps to make your guests feel thought of and informed. Include your wedding itinerary, important phone numbers and addresses as well as some fun regional goodies and day after essentials like head ache medicine! Drop off your gifts with your hotel front desk the night before your guests arrive so that they can receive them as they check in!

#5. CHOOSING YOUR FLORALS - While necessary, wedding florals can be pricey. To make the most of your floral design budget, choose ceremony florals that can also be used for your reception or as a backdrop for guest photos.

#6. WELCOME DRINK - A wonderful way to welcome your guests to your wedding to by offer them something refreshing to sip on while they arrive to your ceremony. Especially if you are having a late Spring or Summer wedding, it may be hot. By simply having a beautifully garnished flavored water, juice or lemonade, your guests will thank you! And, if you're not keen on serving a beverage as your guests arrive, by all means have glasses of champagne ready to be served after the ceremony!

#7. SET THE MUSICAL MOOD - When choosing the musical soundtrack for the background of your event, be sure to take into account the type of feeling you want to evoke. Is your wedding more on the formal side? Maybe hire a string quartet to play during the ceremony. Are you a more fun and funky couple? Try having a Motown jazz band play during the cocktail reception! you want to choose a musical background that not only represents your personality but also flows with your overall wedding theme.

#8. GUEST RECOMMENDATIONS - An easy way to make your guests feel taken care of and excited about coming to your destination wedding is offer them some recommendations ahead of time! If you and your bride or groom to be have already had a chance to explore your wedding region, a fun thing to do is to create a list of your favorite restaurants, parks, museums and hot spots to recommend to your guests a few weeks before they travel to France. Not only is it super thoughtful, it doesn't cost a thing as you can send it via email!

#9. WEDDING DAY DETAILS - When choosing your photographer, make sure to check if whether or not they are comfortable with styling your day of details. By this I mean your invitation suite, day of paper goods, flowers, ring box, jewelry, and so on. If they are not too keen on styling on their own, be sure to take the time the night before to organize your own details so that he or she can easily photograph them to look their best. This may seem like an unnecessary detail, but it tells a cohesive story of your wedding and you'll want to remember every aspect of your big day! If this is too much for you, you can always ...
